Obituary for William Kany Leydecker

William Kany Leydecker

Avon – Batavia On Saturday, January 1, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary R. Leydecker; daughter, Anne Marie Barnett. He is survived by his sister, Karen Kelly, sons, Bill Leydecker, Mark (Terry) Leydecker, and daughters, Ginny (Tim) Batzel, Lynn (Gerry) Bensley, and Barbara Leydecker; son-in-law Roger Barnett; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; many friends.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Bill was an amazing father and grandfather, and a caring friend to everyone he met. Born in Rochester, NY, Bill was a member of the graduating class at Holley High School in 1950. He married Mary C. Riley in 1955 and together they raised their family in Hilton, NY.

In 1980, they moved to Marietta, GA, where they resided until 2019. “Papa Bill” as he was affectionately known, spent more than 40 years in the automotive business. In early days he was a parts manager (Piehler Pontiac, Boomershine Subaru/Hummer), and later as a shuttle driver (Subaru of Kennesaw).

He was known for his positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and unfailing work ethic. Upon his return to western NY, he took up residence at the Manor House, where he quickly got to know staff members and residents alike. He was always ready with a smile, kind greeting, and, more likely than not, a goofy joke. He often spoke of the Manor House as his 2nd family and couldn’t have been happier there. He will be deeply missed by all those that knew him, particularly those who had the privilege of being his children.

Per Bill’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Private internment will occur in the Spring of 2022 at the Western New York National Cemetery, Pembroke, NY with military honors.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Manor House, 427 E. Main Street Batavia, NY 14020.
