AVON - Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at age 93, with her loving family close by. She is survived by her daughters Charmaine Gleason, Colleen Backus, Jill Brice and her husband Lewis Brice; grandchildren Michael Ransom Backus, Colby and Lisa Wilson, Merideth and Jonerik Wallace, Zach Wilson, Chelsey Backus, Angela Brice, LJ Brice, and Todd Brian Backus; and great-grandchildren Sophie and Zoey Wilson, and Laken and Kinley Wallace.

She was predeceased by her son Drake Gleason. Vera was born June 22nd, 1928, in Newton Falls, OH, the daughter of Gladys and Lawrence Woodburn.

She was raised with her three sisters Sally Murphy, Ruth Brinkman, and Jean Padgett, on a farm in Newton Falls. In her youth she performed to rave reviews as an actor and worked in a movie theater. She graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. She was a hard worker throughout her life and enjoyed multiple years of service with Kent State University, Precise Plastics, and The Lake and Valley Clarion. She was an Upstate New York sports team enthusiast and always knew when her teams were playing. She was a quilter who made sure all of her descendants were wrapped up in her love. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at the Avon Down’s Pavilion on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 2 PM.
