Obituary for Mefus M. Edwards
Mefus Moelwen Thomas Edwards, of Lima, age 96, passed into the presence of the Lord on April 9, 2020 in Warsaw, NY. Mefus was born in Waunarlwydd, South Wales in 1923, the 5th of 6 children, born to coal mining parents, Walter and Diana Thomas. Her beloved husband of 70 years, Rev. H. David Edwards, President-Emeritus of Elim Bible Institute, died in 2016. She is survived by her children, Ann (Dr. Eric) Smith of KS, Dr. D. Kerry (Pauline) Edwards of CO, Kayren (Rev. Chris) Lonneville of Warsaw, NY; sister-in-law, Beryl Edwards of Wales; 8 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mefus worked as a receptionist/secretary for EM Manufacturing (Wella Products) for several years beginning at age 16, including while David was an officer in the British army. They were married in 1945 and after David was discharged in 1947, they began raising a family. Mefus served alongside her husband, a minister, in England, Wales, Canada, and the United States. The majority of their ministry years were spent at Elim Bible Institute in Lima, NY where Mefus was well-known for her faithful volunteer service. She was a long-standing member of Elim Gospel Church in Lima. Mefus hosted many guests in her home and her favorite hobby was knitting, whether for family, newborn babies of friends, or the homeless in New York City. The resounding themes from those who knew her were her faith, her kindness, her love, and her smile! She spent the last five years of her life living with her daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Kayren Lonneville in Warsaw, NY. Mefus was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
Arrangements are with the O'Connell-Dougherty Funeral Home, 2041 Lake Ave., Lima, NY. Due to the current national health crisis, there will be a private interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lima.
